Honesty and the truth are hot topics these days and listening to people try to figure their problems out makes me wonder, why is it so hard to get to the truth? Then I remembered I've already written about this once before and things haven't really changed in the almost two years since I wrote the original piece. This is a happy coincidence since my laptop is acting up and refuses to connect to the Internet! Here is "Subject to Interpretation:"
I sometimes wonder if the truth is really a foreign concept that we've failed to interpret properly. Truth changes with time, as quickly as sunlight cuts through shadows. But everyone has their own truths, so when is something really the truth or simply masquerading lies?
We lie to keep people close or to push them away. We lie to protect, to deceive, to hide, but in reality, we lie to save ourselves. We try to prevent others from discovering our truths because we aren't quite sure who would be able to stick it out. Skeletons in the closet aren't always easy to forget or forgive so most people don't really get around to revealing them until they have to.
We thrive on broken dreams, letting the lies bleed into the fabric of our days, until they become part of our truth. Some live their lives trusting that truth is beauty and lies carry dark bitter evils better left un-named. But this belief itself is a lie to most others. What hurts more, a lie that makes you smile or a truth that brings you to tears?
I don’t profess to always speak the truth, in fact I’m a little too good at dealing with lies. But that’s my truth whether you believe it or not.
It's 2011 and I've decided it's time to get back into writing. In the time honoured tradition of making stupid agreements after consuming an entire bottle of champagne on new year's eve, I am bound to write one blog a day during 2011. There is no limit on length or topic so readers (if any) beware...as Truman Capote once said, "The first draft of everything is shit." Don't say you weren't warned =p

Promise Me
Yesterday's late night post may have seem cryptic but I assure you that wasn't the intention. I was simply stating that not all promises are meant to be kept. Some simply become outdated, while others are just impossible to uphold.
Personally, if I make a promise, I tend to keep it no matter what. However, there are some promises I make to myself that my friends take on as a challenge to undermine. I'm not sure if I love or loath them for this, but it is a fine line so it really just depends on what promise they are trying to ruin.
Promises can create new opportunities, spark adventures, break hearts, and bind people together forever. Promise me you'll follow through on yours whenever you can.

10 Truths
For those of you worried that you might have to read more stuff about me, fear not - we're closing in on midnight and I'm reaching back into the past of another pre-written piece! Sorry if you've already read it but chances are you don't remember it so it's slightly new. Way back in 2009, I was busy thinking about the things that I had learned over the past decade before the new one started. Here's what I had to say...
Truth changes with the light so you have to put them out there while you can.
1. People usually only hear what they want to hear so be careful with what you say and who you say it to.
2. There are no right or wrong answers, just answers that fit your situation better than others.
3. Family can drive you insane but sometimes they are the only ones that can bring you back from the brink.
4. Anyone that says good friends can never be a substitute for family doesn't have very good friends.
5. Money can buy pretty much anything you could ever want, but getting everything you want doesn't necessarily mean you'll be happy.
6. The 'would you rather be too hot or too cold' debate can be settled by asking a simple question. Would you be more freaked out by a naked person walking down the street in 40 degree weather or a person wearing a dozen layers of clothing in -40 degree weather? Clearly, it's better to be too cold rather than too hot.
7. It's better to have someone fail to meet your expectations than to have no expectations at all.
8. Anger and indignation can only keep you warm for so long. Eventually you have to let go of all that hurt before anything gets better.
9. Your dreams will only come true if you work to make them true.
10. Sometimes love isn't enough but that doesn't mean we should ever stop believing in it.
